PhD Title: Immunological and pharmacological mechanisms affecting the evolution of drug-resistant strains of Tuberculosis in Ghana.
Study Description: Tuberculosis (TB) remains a significant public health concern globally, with drug-resistant strains posing a major threat to TB control efforts. This study investigates the immunological and pharmacological mechanisms influencing the development and persistence of drug-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M. tb) strains in Ghana. The research integrates immunological profiling, pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) analyses, and molecular characterization of M. tb isolates to uncover how host immune responses and drug pressure interact to drive resistance evolution.

Profile:I am a PhD candidate at the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, University of Ghana, focusing on the immunological and pharmacological mechanisms influencing the evolution of drug-resistant tuberculosis strains (TB) in Ghana. My work seeks to understand how host immune responses and drug exposures contribute to the emergence and persistence of drug-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis, to inform more effective treatment strategies and public health interventions.
I am a licensed pharmacist by profession and currently practice at the University Health Services, KNUST, where I combine clinical experience with research interests in antimicrobial resistance and infectious disease management. My academic and clinical background supports an interdisciplinary approach to TB research, combining immunology, pharmacokinetics, molecular diagnostics, and patient-centered care. I am passionate about translating research findings into real-world health improvements, particularly in resource-limited settings.
